DEBBIE MOAK SCHOLARSHIP

“I want to take this opportunity to invest back into the organization that invested so heavily in me.” – Robert Hess III

In April 2019, Hess III Consulting made a donation to notMYkid, Inc. to launch The Debbie Moak Scholarship Fund, titled after one of notMYkid’s founders; which provides youth, parent and faculty education on substance abuse, bullying, unhealthy relationships, eating disorders, depression/self-injury and internet safety to over 100,000 middle and high school students per year across Arizona. The endowment was announced at the recent 15th Annual notMYkid Gala, and the inaugural scholarship was simultaneously presented to peer-to-peer presenter, Tyler.

Hess served as a peer-to-peer speaker for notMYKid from 2006 to 2008, speaking to tens of thousands of young people in more than sixty middle schools and high schools, across the state based on his own experience overcoming depression, self-injury and attempted suicide. It was a subsequent college scholarship from Debbie Moak that began his education and long-term career. He has now earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Arizona State University and his Master of Public Health from John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, he has earned certification as a project management professional (PMP), certified professional of healthcare quality (CPHQ), and certification as a LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB).

Based on the understanding that young people are more likely to listen to their peers, notMYkid presenters are young adults who range in age from 18-30 and who have completed (at minimum) a 20-hour training program and use their personal life experiences to prevent students from having similar negative experiences and to promote positive life choices

notMYkid’s Board of Directors plans to build and maintain their scholarship program and encourages donors who want to contribute to it to earmark their donations for this program.
