Health and Housing Opportunities 2.0 (H2O)

As populations around the world struggle with instability in employment and housing, an ever-growing number of individuals are becoming increasingly vulnerable to health issues due to their lack of access to quality care. To help address this issue, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) has launched its Health and Housing Opportunities 2.0 Program (H2O). This innovative program offers a comprehensive approach to improving health outcomes by providing access to safe, stable housing as well as primary and behavioral healthcare services.

The goal of H2O is to ensure that Arizona’s most vulnerable population has access to quality care while also providing them with much needed stability in terms of employment and housing resources. To make this possible, AHCCCS provides financial assistance up front to cover the cost of supportive housing and even helps enrollees transition into long-term affordable homes once they have gained stability in recovery. In addition, AHCCCS also offers subsidies for rent payments when needed.

This new program allows individuals who are affected by SUDs or mental health struggles to receive additional support through primary care visits as well as counseling sessions that focus on developing life skills and coping strategies. Additionally, H2O can link enrollees with other necessary services such as vocational training or job placement programs which can be essential for their continued recovery process.

Overall, the H2O Program represents an important step forward for addressing some of the most pressing needs faced by those living with SUDs or mental illness in Arizona today. Through a mixture of case management services and financial assistance, H2O works towards providing individuals with stability in both health and housing while also fostering an environment that encourages long-term recovery success.
